Like it's 1955 again

Ernst Eloff, co-founder of Mid-Century Modern,  now works as an independent buyer and collector of mid-century furniture pieces. His studio apartment in Gardens doubles as a temporary showroom where recognisable icons of the period make for quirky living room accents. Chrome pendant ceiling lights and high-backed siesta lounge chairs (circa 1970) might feature comfortably in grainy pre-millenium home video or science fiction film set, yet they're invading contemporary homes, offices and doctors' rooms like it's 1955 again.

Pictured left: Ernst dons a pair of thrift-shop opera-glasses. Move over, Ray Ban.

Above, left to right: Arne Jacobsen's original 'Egg Chair;' the bent-steel 'Wassily Chair' by Marcel Breuer.
